Kefalonia - Livathos PDF Print E-mail
Greece - Kefalonia

The Municipality of Livathos is located in the south-western department of the island and is perhaps the most fertile municipality of Kefalonia. It has a population of 4763 (2001 inventory). In Livathos belong the settlements of  Vlahata, Lourdata, Metaxata, Mousata, Peratata, Svoronata, Spartia, Lakithra, Pessada, Karavado and Keramies.

Livathos is the market-garden of Kefalonia. With its rich, red soils and abundant winter rain, the area is covered with many small farmsteads and olive & citrus groves.

With its myriad of small hamlets all looking out to sea, the area has historically been a favourite with sea captains. Wherever you look in Livathos, church belltowers appear poking above the canpy of olives. One of the wealtheast seafaring families on the island, the Vergotis family hail for the the village of Kourkoumelata.

Livathos is extremely close to the big resort of Lassi and can easily be reached by bus or bike. Along its southern coastline there are many small beaches.

From the village of Pessada, ferries run throughout the summer between Kefalonia and the island of Zakynthos.
